Michael Ryan, founder of InterCap M&A LLC has over 10 years successful experience as an investment banker. Most recently he was a Managing Director with Citigroup in Smith Barney's affiliate company, Citigroup Geneva Capital Strategies, Inc. His background includes responsibility for all private market M&A activity in the northeast. Mr. Ryan covered and managed 12 states with a portfolio of over 60 companies in market with an additional 26 companies in incubation as they prepared for market. He led a team of 12 M&A professionals including M&A Associates, M&A Analysts, and Dealmakers and Bankers covering the range of Managing Directors, Vice Presidents, and Assistant Vice Presidents.
He was responsible for all back-end operational fulfillment of deal making for private market M&A activity in the northeast region. His experience includes analysis and valuation of client companies for development of an M&A marketing strategy. This M&A marketing strategy, born from the analysis and evaluation of the client company, led to the packaging and positioning of the client company in the market place.
Mr. Ryan has developed and/or edited a vast number of Confidential Blind Business Profiles and Confidential Information Memorandums (CIM) or Confidential Business Reviews (CBR) to position client companies in the market place. He has developed numerous prospective purchaser lists and overall marketing strategies, and has launched or managed the launch of well over 200 companies to market.
Additionally, Mr. Ryan has reviewed, consulted, valued, and provided M&A advisory services to over 500 companies spanning the manufacturing, distribution, information technology, and service sectors. While leading his team and performing these duties and services, Mr. Ryan personally and directly closed over 38 transactions in various industries including all of the above.
Mr. Ryan has personally founded and sold 2 companies and acquired 2 other companies in addition to his 38 M&A transactions. His career started with Northrop Grumman in F-14 fighter manufacturing operations and fleet readiness where he held a DOD Confidential Security Clearance. Thereafter, Mr. Ryan was associated with Raytheon Company, assigned to various black box systems for nuclear submarines, where he held a DOD Top Secret Security Clearance.
Mr. Ryan is a graduate of Lehigh University with a BS in Accounting. He has been active in charitable organizations serving The Park Avenue Club, a charitable foundation, as Membership Chairman. He is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), President of a ski club, and he is a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do karate. John E. Mullen, III, Senior Managing Director and Member, InterCap M&A, LLC is the founder and President of Mullen & Company, Inc. a Hartford Connecticut investment banking firm, which is active in the private placement of equity and equity-related capital for privately-held, middle-market companies. He has over 25 years of experience in middle-market analysis and capitalization, including ten years in the private equity arena. His experience includes company analysis, preparation of the Confidential Information Memorandum (CIM) or Confidential Business Review (CBR), structuring the investment, negotiating with buyers and investors, and closing document review.
Mullen & Company has been a special advisor to a New York City based firm, which managed the affairs of a $120 million private equity partnership, advising the firm on follow-on funding of portfolio companies and timing and terms of portfolio liquidations. Mr. Mullen functioned as the interim CEO of one portfolio company and was a member of its board of directors.
Mr. Mullen also served as a Vice President of Business Analysis at Citigroup Geneva Capital Strategies. While at Citigroup, he worked with over 100 business owners exploring the transition of their companies, whether as a personal liquidity event of an illiquid asset, or the raising of expansion capital to take advantage of well-timed growth opportunities. He was responsible for identifying and selecting quality, well-run, marketable companies to be represented by Citigroup in the M&A process. His understanding of the M&A process and marketplace, combined with his personal experience in investing, company acquisition and divestiture, and business strategy, tactics, and operations, provides Mr. Mullen with a unique expertise from which client companies benefit.
Prior to forming Mullen & Company in 1994, Mr. Mullen was a principal and managing director of a venture banking company where he was responsible for investor contacts, expansion of the firm's transaction referral network, and the merchant and investment banking needs of private companies and their owners. In the preceding ten years, Mr. Mullen was a commercial lender in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Before entering banking, he worked as a land-planning consultant.
Mr. Mullen holds a BS degree in Environmental Design from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and an MA in Economics/Finance from Trinity College. He is also a Series 7 and 63 Registered Securities Representative and a Series 24 Registered Principal. In addition to his business activities, Mr. Mullen has been an active member of corporate and governmental advisory boards and committees, and hospital and college development boards.
